On Wednesday, October 16, the Tewksbury Country Club was bright and cheerful and a hubbub of activity.
When attendees walked into the Club, they were greeted by people laughing and talking, perusing Silent Auction and Raffle items, catching up with old friends, and making new ones.
Such was the scene at the Fifth Annual Power of Flowers Project’s Spread the Joy Luncheon.
As people mingled amid the beautifully set tables, they checked out the Raffle items as well as the Wine Pull and the Bonus Board tables.
The newest addition to the festivities, The Golden Ticket, generated much excitement. Those who purchased a $20 ticket had a chance to win a $500 Visa Gift card.
Once the more than the 300 attendees were seated for a delicious meal, Michelle Silveira, Executive Director of The Power of Flowers Project and Volunteer Coordinator, gave her opening remarks about the mission and excitement taking place at the POFP:
“To say that our event was a SUCCESS is an understatement.” The money raised this year, $50,000, exceeded the totals from the 2018 Luncheon. Since this is the biggest POFP fundraiser of the year, to say that we were very, very pleased and grateful is also an understatement.
Matt Durkin, Executive Director of The Durkin Foundation, and this year’s Rose Sponsor was introduced. He said, “The Durkin Foundation is proud to support this wonderful cause! Brightening up someone’s day can be the key to their success, and we are proud to partner with the Power of Flowers Project.”
Then Joyce Bellefeuille, founder of the POFP, said a few words: “There is an infinite amount of joy available to us all. Find something that brings joy to you and others – do the work and see what happens. Flowers + Work = JOY. “
Michelle continued: “We are so thankful for all the support we receive each year at our event. This event allows us to thank our committed donors, tell our story and introduce first time attendees to our mission.”
After the meal, the silent auction, the Golden Ticket, and the raffle winners were announced. Talk about a happy crowd!
No one went away empty handed though. On the way out, each attendee was presented with a signature POFP bouquet from the wonderful flower cart in the lobby.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who made this delightful day possible: the donors and sponsors who are listed in two previous blogs; the volunteers who worked so hard on pulling the event together and their attention to details large and small.
Most of all, we want to thank all who attended: sponsors, donors, supporters, and volunteers and guests.
Hope to see you all next year.
