In the weeks to come, we’ll be featuring an in-depth look at some Silent Auction items that will be available during the Spread the Joy Luncheon on Wednesday, October 18.
Cornhole Boards, Hand made and Hand painted in the USA
This week’s featured auction item is a set of 2 Cornhole Boards with 2 sets of beanbags. Cornhole, also known as dummy boards, bean bag toss, doghouse, and Baggo, is a lawn game for 2 to 4 players. The players take turns throwing bean bags (originally bags of corn) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A player who gets the bag in the hole scores 3 points; a bag on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player scores 21 points (or more). Go to https://www.playcornhole.org/ for the American Cornhole Assoiation (ACA) for official rules.
These cornhole boards are hand painted with various local icons that spell “Boston”
B-Bruins, Boston’s Hockey Team
O-Celtics, Boston’s Basketball Team logo with Shamrock
S-Red Sox, Boston’s Baseball Team
T-MBTA logo for Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, Boston’s bus and subway train transportation system.
O-Logo of the Citco Oil Company that has been a part of the Boston skyline since 1965. Located in Kenmore Square, the Citgo sign became a landmark because it is visible during Red Sox Games at Fenway Park.
N-New England Patriots, football team (Go Pats!)
The wood for the cornhole boards was donated by a POF volunteer. The volunteer’s daughter, who is a high school computer teacher, had the wood shop teacher at her school make the boards, and then she hand-painted them.
